Welcome to the first Thrifty Thursday of December. Our family has a little tradition of giving pajamas to our girls every Christmas Eve. When I began sewing a few years ago, of course I had to make the pajamas. And judging from the questions I see this time of year in sewing groups, I'm not the only one.
In the spirit of Christmas and giving and a #HandmadeHoliday (have you joined in the fun in the Facebook group?), I decided to sew up one of my favorite FREE patterns, the Movie Night Pajamas from Sew a Little Seam. This year is a little bittersweet though as it is the first year I've made the women’s version for my oldest. She's getting so big! However, there is a children’s version, men’s version, and even a pet version so you can make EVERYONE their own pajamas! Just join the Sew a Little Seam Facebook group for all the codes.
The Movie Night PJs are designed for knit fabrics, and I love all of Amelia Lane Designs' waffle knits so I choose to use the Bradley waffle knit. Not only is it GREEN, but it has these adorable stars that add a sort-of-Christmas feel, but not-super-Christmas addition. Plus, all the waffle knits are so soft and comfortable. Perfect to sleep in!
Just a word of caution, the cuffs and bands on this pattern require more stretch and recovery than the waffle knit has. Be sure to find a coordinating fabric with plenty of recovery and good stretch! The double brushed poly in the shop would work well, and I've had success using the rib knits for bands too.
Besides being available for everyone in the family, the Movie Night PJs have tons of options. There are 3 sleeve lengths with cuffs or hems and 2 neck options with optional placket for the women's top. The bottoms come in 3 different lengths as well with option of cuffs or hem and elastic or yoga waistband. We made the shirt with cuffed long sleeves and banded crew neck. The pants are long length with cuffs and a yoga waistband with optional drawstring.
Remember Bradley waffle knit is 30% off for today only. Don't hesitate to
start a pile or check out the new arrivals on sale to fill up your box. Be sure to check out Sarah's post about the pet version in Dalton double brushed poly, our second featured fabric here.
Merry Thrifty Thursday to all and to all a good night!
